Burlingame, San Mateo County
Burlingame is named for Anson Burlingame, a diplomat who bought land here in the 1860s. Its railroad station, built in 1894, is considered the first permanent building in the Mission Revival style. The towering eucalyptus trees along El Camino Real were planted in the 1870s by John McLaren, later the builder of Golden Gate Park, and the city still calls itself the City of Trees.
